Minster Board of Education Overview- May 13, 2024

 

The Minster Board of Education met for their monthly meeting Monday evening.

 

Donations

 

The Board accepted the following donations:

  • 300 units of yogurt from Danone North America for the Cat’s Running Club Ribbon Run held on May 1.

  • $1,500 from the Minster Service Club for Band

 

Board Recognition of Students

 

The Minster Board of Education recognized the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Minster High School Class of 2024. Jacob Keller, son of Ron and Leanne Keller, is the Class of 2024 valedictorian and Hannah Oldiges, daughter of Ted and Maria Oldiges, is the Class of 2024 salutatorian.

 

Superintendent’s Report

 

Superintendent Josh Meyer updated the Board on the end of the school year activities, open positions in the district, summer facility and maintenance projects and the upcoming District Leadership Team meeting.

K-6 Principal’s Report

 

Elementary Principal Mrs. Mandy Albers provided the elementary report. She shared with the Board that State testing is complete for students in grades 3 through 6. Mrs. Albers also congratulated Lilia Longbrake, Nora Homan and Eli Luthman for being finalists in the National Civics Bee and congratulated Ellie Niekamp for reaching the state level God, Flag and Country competition.

 

Mrs. Albers also updated the Board on open teaching positions and Teacher Appreciation Week.

7-12 Principal’s Report

 

7-12 Principal Mr. Austin Kaylor shared the Jr/Sr High School update with the Board. Mr. Kaylor congratulated the Cats of the Month: Therese Schulze, Izzy Kies, Evan Homan, Reese Beair, Max Knapke and Ashlyn Homan.

 

Mr. Kaylor also congratulated the Minster High School Symphonic Band on earning a I/Superior rating at the State OMEA event held in Findlay on April 27. He also congratulated junior Max Knapke for being named a National Merit Scholar.

 

Mr. Kaylor also updated the Board on the High School Graduation ceremony set for Sunday, May 26 at 1 PM.

Curriculum and Instruction

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Treasurer Gina Selby provided the Board with her monthly report. Mrs. Selby provided the 5 year forecast to the Board, minutes from last month’s meeting, a fund summary account report, an overview of monthly cash flow and requested a transfer of the remaining balance from the Class of 2024 to partially fund playground upgrades at Melcher Street Park.

Superintendent’s Consent Agenda

 

During the Superintendent’s Consent portion of the agenda the Minster Board approved the list of 2024 graduates contingent upon meeting requirements, approved a resolution authorizing membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and approved membership in the West Central Ohio Assistive Technology Center Consortium.

 

New Business

 

In New Business, the Minster Board of Education approved the foodservice consulting agreement with Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council.

 

Personnel Recommendations

 

The Board approved a lengthy list of Personnel Recommendations:

 

  • Accept the resignation of Alicia Everman, School Psychologist, effective July 31, 2024.

  • Accept the resignation of Brooke Schmerge, HS English teacher, effective at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 school year.

  • Accept the resignation, for the purpose of retirement, of Marie-Andree Eiting, Elementary Intervention Specialist, effective at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 school year.

  • Offered a continuing contract to: Melissa Utrup, 7-12 School Counselor.

  • Offered a Limited 3 year contract to the following teachers:

    • Alison Borchers

    • Kristi Counts

    • Emily Funk

    • Lindsey Hopkins

    • Kelly Hoying

    • Caileigh Huelskamp

    • Kenleigh Ludlow

    • Lisa Neuman

    • Elizabeth Paulus

    • William Smith

    • Seth Whiting

  • Offer a Limited 1 Year contract to the following teachers:

    • Micheal Ketner

    • Natalie Letherman

    • Sarah Regedanz

    • Melissa Schmackers

  • Offer a limited 1 year contract for extended days to:

    • Nick Baird

    • Jen Beair

    • Leah Ketner

    • Melissa Utrup

    • Greg Zumberger

    • Paul Winglewich

  • Offer Summer School and Extended School Year Services contracts to:

    • Savina Bair

    • Melissa Schmackers

    • Kelly Wiss

  • Offer continuing classified contracts to:

    • Christe Sanders

    • Annette Moran

  • Offer a limited 2 year classified contract to:

    • Brenda Eiting

    • Kelley Hirschfeld

  • Offer a limited one year contract to:

    • Lisa Schemmel

    • Emily Funk

  • The Minster Board also approved summer tech support, groundskeepers and summer custodial help as needed.

  • The Minster Board also approved a long list of limited 1 year supplemental contracts, including athletic coaches, class advisors, and student club advisors.

The Minster Board of Education set their next monthly meeting for June 25 at 7 PM in the Large Group Meeting Room.

 

Executive Session

 

The Board of Education entered into Executive Session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee and the purchase or sale of property. There was no action taken after the executive session.
