Maria Stein, OH – Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman and Marion Local School Superintendent Mike Pohlman wanted to share a joint press release regarding a threat of harm at the school. On the morning of May 9th, 2025 the Mercer County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Marion Local School staff regarding allegations of a middle school student making a threat to come to the school and do harm.
Detectives and Deputies responded immediately to the school and worked jointly with the staff to begin an investigation. Several interviews were conducted, and a juvenile suspect was taken into custody and brought to the Mercer County Juvenile Probate Court to appear in front of Judge Matthew Gilmore. He was later transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for incarceration until his next court appearance.
Sheriff Timmerman and Superintendent Pohlman assures the community that there is no active threat at this time. Due to the suspect being a juvenile, their name is prevented from being disclosed. The case will be turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
