Tri-County ADAMHS Board's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training a Success

The Tri-County Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board in partnership with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office successfully completed its Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program for local law enforcement and corrections officers from Mercer, Van Wert, and Paulding Counties. The training, held from May 5 to May 9 at the newly remodeled Tri-County ADAMHS Board Training Center in Van Wert, equipped 16 officers, deputies, corrections officers and school resource officers with crucial skills for effectively responding to mental health crises.

Training Highlights

The 40-hour CIT program featured comprehensive instruction on:

• Mental health disorders and their symptoms
• Crisis de-escalation techniques
• Effective communication strategies
• Community mental health resources
• Relevant legal considerations

The training was led by a diverse group of experts, including mental health professionals, law enforcement officers with CIT certification, and individuals with lived experience, providing attendees with a well-rounded and practical understanding of crisis situations.

The Tri-County ADAMHS Board is committed to ongoing efforts to improve mental health crisis response in the region. To that end, the board will continue to provide annual CIT training for local law enforcement, first responders, and probation officers.
