The following is a Press Release from the Darke County Sheriff's Office:
On May 13, 2025 at approximately 6:28 p.m. Darke County Deputies along with Union City Fire & Rescue, Southwest Mercer Fire Department, Saint Henry Rescue, and CareFlight were dispatched to the intersection of Hillgrove Fort Recovery Road and Peters Road in reference to an injury accident.
Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2014 Dodge Ram pulling a farm related trailer was traveling north on Hillgrove Fort Recovery Road at Peters Road when a Black 2001 Kia Sportage traveling east on Peters Road failed to yield for the stop sign and struck the Dodge. After the initial collision, the trailer became disconnected from the Dodge and both went into a field. The Kia struck a ditch before coming to rest.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as Mark Osterholt (65) of Fort Recovery, Ohio. Mr. Osterholt was treated and released at scene with no apparent injury.
The driver of the Kia was identified as Bryan Adkins (46) of Hollansburg, Ohio. Mr. Adkins had to be extricated from the Kia by mechanical means and was ultimately transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight where he is in critical condition. Prior to Mr. Adkins being transported to Miami Valley Hospital, suspected methamphetamine, PCP, and fentanyl was located on his person.
This crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
