From the Celina Police:
The Celina Police Department would like to announce that Assistant Police Chief Dan Harting retired yesterday, May 16th, 2025, after serving the Citizens of Celina for over 29 years.
Assistant Chief Harting hired in as a patrolman in 1996, promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and then Assistant Chief in 2015. Dan was the department's K-9 handler for 16 years. First with K-9 Nick in 2000 and when Nick retired in 2010, then he handled K-9 Nick until 2016.
The dogs under Dan's command were among the best in west central Ohio. Many agencies came to Dan over the years for advice when they had issues with their dogs.
A.C. Harting was not only committed to having the best dogs in area law enforcement, but he was committed to the community. He was a frequent guest speaker at public events and in the schools.
In the office, Dan has always been the go-to person. He kept up on legislation, case law, search and seizure laws and procedure. His knowledge of firearms is second to none.
Assistant Chief Harting's benefit to the Celina Police Department and the citizens it serves cannot be replaced. He will be missed. We do congratulate Dan and are happy for him as he enters the next chapter of his life.
