Minster Board of Education Overview- May 19, 2025

 

The Minster Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.

 

Donations

 

The Board voted to approve accepting the following donations:

  • A Copernicus Self-Regulation Classroom Cruiser from the Bill Bernard Family valued at $1043.14 for the Special Education Program.

  • $3000 from an anonymous donor for the Varsity Baseball Program.

  • $2000 from an anonymous donor for the Varsity Softball Program.

 

Board Recognition of Students

The Minster Board of Education recognized Eli Huwer, son of James and Jacqueline Huwer- Outstanding Student of the Year in the Tri Star REC Tech program, Matthew Berning, son of Chad and the late Gail Berning- Outstanding Student of the Year in the Tri Star Interactive Media Program and Charlie Winner, son of John and Beth Winner- Winner of a Cybersecurity Skills Grant.

Superintendent’s Report

 

Superintendent Josh Meyer provided the Board an update on end of the year activities, open positions and summer projects, the Capital Improvement Plan and a legislative update. Mr. Meyer’s full report can be found here: Superintendent's Report

 

K-6 Principal’s Report

 

Elementary Principal Mrs. Mandy Albers provided the elementary report. She provided the Board with Acadience Learning Test Scores, along OST Math and OST Science scores for the elementary. Mrs. Albers provided the Board with information on the HMH Into Reading Program and gave the board a list of events that end the school year.

7-12 Principal’s Report

 

7-12 Principal Mr. Austin Kaylor shared the Jr/Sr High School update with the Board. He recognized the following CATS of the Month: Kinley Bernard, Alex Oen, Noah Ceylor, Briseida Olivares Luna, Annie Hemmelgarn and Emma Wuebker. Mr. Kaylor congratulated the MHS Symphonic Band on their Superior Rating at the state contest, congratulated the 11 FFA students that earned their State FFA Degree, and provided the Board with information concerning the upcoming graduation ceremony. He also gave the Board a list of upcoming events to end the school year.

Curriculum and Instruction

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Treasurer Gina Selby provided the Board with her monthly report. Mrs. Selby shared the 5 year forecast and the District’s Financial Health Indicators with the Board. Mrs. Selby also provided the Board with a budget performance update, and asked the Board to approve modifications to appropriations.

Superintendent’s Consent Agenda

 

During the Superintendent’s Consent Agenda portion of the meeting the Minster Board approved the list of 2025 graduates, approved membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association and approved membership in the West Central Ohio Assistive Technology Center Consortium.

 

New Business

 

In new business the Minster Board approved the following items:

 

  • Updated a number of policies and by laws.

  • Rescinded the special education model policy developed by ODEW that was approved in February and replaced it with an updated policy.

  • Approved the transfer of $5,000,000 to a Capital Improvement Account to address future needs, including purchasing buses, planning for future expansion, and updating kitchen equipment, HVAC and technology upgrades.

 

The Board set Monday, June 16 at 7 PM in the Large Group Room as the time for their next monthly meeting.

 

Personnel Recommendations

 

The Board approved the following Personnel Recommendations:

  • Accepted the resignation of Josh Clune, Asst. Principal/Athletic Director.

  • Approved a number of limited 3 year teaching contracts, limited 2 year teaching contracts and limited 1 year teaching contracts beginning in the 2025/2026 school year.

  • Approved Extended Service Day contracts for band directors, guidance counselors and FFA.

  • Approved Angie Niemeyer as a summer part time tutor.

  • Accepted the resignation of Josh Clune, bus driver.

  • Approved cook’s helper contracts for next school year.

  • Approved Lisa Schemmel- Progress Book and Emily Funk- Newsletter Design.

  • Approved a number of individuals for summer custodial and technology help.

  • Approved Positive Peer Advocates and BattleBots Club as Category 7 on the Supplemental Salary Schedule beginning in 2025/2026.

Executive Session

 

The Board of Education entered into Executive Session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee and the purchase or sale of property. No action was taken after the Executive Session.
