RICHARD A. “DICK” HARTWIG

RICHARD A. “DICK” HARTWIG, age 96,

Of New Bremen, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 1:20 P.M. at the CareCore at Heritage in Minster, Ohio. He was born on December 14, 1928 in Versailles, the son of the late Raymond W. and Mildred E. (Trittschuh) Hartwig. On April 8, 1955, he married Dorothy R. Krutz, and they shared 33 years together until her death on October 3, 1988. Dick is survived by his son, Travis Hartwig of New Bremen.  Also surviving is Dick’s sister-in-law Alice Hartwig of St. Marys a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Monroe, and his brother Duane Hartwig.

Dick attended New Bremen High School until he joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during World War II onboard the USS Guadalupe. He had worked for the former Greg Gast Excavating, assisting in the construction of the Rustic Haven Campground and later as a welder at the former STAMCO in New Bremen. He also worked for Gene Topp Drainage, where he assisted in various aspects of the business. Beyond his work, Dick was a familiar face as he drove countless miles around town and was as the "Old Timer" of Bolly’s in New Bremen, where he surely shared many stories and laughs. He found joy in the outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing, a passion that extended to his skill in tying flies. Dick was a people person; his generous spirit was evident to all who knew him, as he was someone who would give you the shirt off his back.
