The Wapakoneta Fire Department responded to a fire Sunday Afternoon downtown at the Modern Plantsman in the 100 block of West Auglaize Street. According to WLIO in Lima, 2 young witnesses, Sebastian Carder and Bentley Klopfenstein, were riding their bikes downtown when they saw smoke coming from the basement. They alerted a passer by who called 911. The Wapakoneta Fire Department, with mutual aid from surrounding departments, was able to contain the fire. The Modern Plantsman sustained minor fire damage, with most of it caused by smoke and water. A neighboring business also received some minor smoke damage.A cause of the fire has not been reported.
