On August 14, 2025 at approximately 06:42 am, Darke County Deputies along with Union City Rescue, Southwest Mercer Fire, and the Ohio State Patrol Commercial Enforcement responded to the intersection of Peters rd. and Hillgrove Fort Recovery rd., reference a two vehicle injury accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 white Freightliner tractor trailer driven by Michael Fisher (76) of Fort Recovery, Ohio was traveling westbound on Peters rd. Fisher failed to yield the right of way while crossing the intersection traveling into the path of a 1994 blue Ford F150 pickup driven by Santiago Jimenez Miranda (28) of Union City, IN that was traveling northbound on Hillgrove Fort Recovery. Jimenez struck Fisher in the driver’s side of his semi-tractor trailer coming to rest on its side in the ditch. Fishers vehicle was able to safely stop after the accident in the roadway.

Jimenez was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Fisher was not injured in the crash.

This accident remains under investigation by The Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
