The St. Marys City Council handled a full slate of items Monday night, ranging from a new liquor permit to flood safety and e-bike regulations.

Council began the meeting by reviewing a liquor permit request for 125 West Spring Street from Quantum Network Integrators, LLC. Police Chief Luke Turpin told council he found no issues with the request, which will now move forward for approval.

Chairman Dave Lunz of the Streets and Sidewalks Committee gave an update from the committee’s October 6th meeting, where members discussed growing safety concerns involving e-bikes and electric scooters. As a result, the city introduced a new ordinance requiring helmets for anyone under 18 riding bicycles, e-bikes, or other low-speed micro-mobility devices within city limits. That measure received its first reading Monday night.

Council also held a first reading on an emergency ordinance adopting the city’s updated flood damage reduction plan. Once passed, the ordinance will allow residents living in flood-prone areas to qualify for federal flood insurance coverage.

Another measure on the agenda was a resolution approving the Auglaize County Solid Waste Management Plan Update, which is required for all municipalities within the district. That resolution also received its first reading.

In other updates, council postponed the upcoming Solid Waste Committee meeting originally set for October 20th. However, the Electric Committee will meet that same evening at 5:15 p.m., followed by a Finance Committee meeting at 5:45 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the St. Marys City Council will be held at the Municipal Building later this month.
