Celina Council Approves Clerk Salary Increase, Hears Updates on City Projects and Public Works Progress
Celina City Council met Monday night, October 27th, for its regular session, where members approved a pay raise for the Clerk of Council and received several administrative updates from Mayor Jeff Hazel.
Council approved Ordinance 40-25-O, establishing the Clerk of Council’s annual salary at $6,000 beginning January 1, 2026, with an automatic 1.5% yearly increase to follow. The adjustment marks the first change in the position’s pay since 2012. Council members agreed the increase keeps the clerk’s salary consistent with other elected officials and helps maintain fairness across positions.
Mayor Hazel opened the meeting by thanking the Celina Lions Club for organizing this year’s Halloween parade, noting the strong community turnout and good weather. He also congratulated Fire Lieutenant Aaron Beougher, recently promoted within the Celina Fire Department.
Hazel shared updates on city infrastructure, reporting that the Public Works building remains on schedule for completion by the end of the year and that Mill Street’s reconstruction could wrap up by mid-November, weather permitting. He also confirmed that Sugar Street’s reconstruction is planned for 2027.
Council members also discussed a fire station feasibility study, which will be reviewed by members after receiving the report electronically this week.
A notable moment came during public comment when a resident asked for clarification about legal language in Ordinance 39-25-O, which concerns indigent defense services in municipal court. The law director explained that the term “potential loss of liberty” refers to offenses that could result in jail time, providing context for how such cases are handled.
Other highlights included recognition of 11-year-old Keagan Carder, who once again donated proceeds from his lemonade stand—this year totaling $423—to the Shop with a Cop program, bringing his total contributions to around $1,000.
Before adjourning, council set a Personnel and Finance Committee meeting for Monday, November 3rd at 5 p.m. to continue work on the upcoming budget.
The meeting concluded at 7:23 p.m.
