Barberton man indicted in Mercer County grand theft case released on recognizance

CELINA — A Barberton man charged with grand theft in Mercer County has been released on his own recognizance following a court appearance this week.
According to court records, 59-year-old Charles E. Daugherty was indicted by a Mercer County grand jury on one count of grand theft, a fourth-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code sections 2913.02(A)(1) and 2913.02(B)(2).
Daugherty was served with a summons at his Barberton residence on October 22 after the indictment was filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court under case number 25-CRM-146. He appeared in court on November 4, where he was released on his own recognizance after the court determined he would appear as required.
As conditions of his release, Daugherty must abstain from alcohol and drugs, submit to random testing, and avoid establishments that serve alcohol. He is also prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or any current or former employees associated with the case.
Daugherty must continue residing at his Barberton address and report to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
The case remains pending in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
