Minster Council Advances Multiple Measures, Including Addressing System Update and Energy Efficiency Contract
Minster Village Council worked through a full agenda this week, approving several resolutions and ordinances.
Council gave the third and final reading of a resolution allowing the Auglaize County Engineer’s Office to assign addresses to new homes and businesses in Minster. The change comes as the county transitions to a new 911 system that requires new addresses to be entered within about 72 hours. Village officials say the engineer’s office already has access to local plat maps and current address information, making the process more efficient.
Council also gave a second reading to an ordinance renewing the village’s agreement with American Municipal Power for its energy efficiency program. Minster has been part of the program since 2010, and the current contract expires at the end of the year. The program provides efficiency assistance for residents and businesses, helping Minster stay competitive with investor-owned utilities. The village expects to pay about $224,000 per year, while avoiding an estimated $2 million in future power supply costs over the three-year term.
A first reading was also given for an ordinance renewing the mutual aid contract with the Osgood Fire District, covering property in McLean Township north of the Lake Loramie shoreline. The village receives about $30,000 per year for providing that service.
Council introduced another first reading designating Minster Bank as a depository for public funds for the next five years, a routine measure required under Ohio law.
In other business, council accepted the October income tax report from the City of St. Marys. Minster received about $363,000 for the month, bringing the year-to-date total to around $4.49 million — approximately $75,000 more than at this point last year.
