New Coldwater Village Administrator Jason Eyink Outlines Projects, Improvements on Spectrum

Coldwater’s new village administrator says a smooth transition and long-term planning are helping set the stage for continued investment across the community.
Jason Eyink joined host Kevin Sandler on Spectrum to discuss his new role following the retirement of longtime village administrator Eric Thomas, who served the village for more than 20 years. Eyink formally took over the position in October after spending 13 years as Coldwater’s finance director.
Eyink said the transition was intentionally phased in, with Dylan Sweeterman stepping into the finance director role earlier this year to ensure continuity in village operations.
One of the major topics discussed was the voter-approved income tax increase, which raised the village rate from 1 percent to 1.5 percent. Eyink credited residents for supporting the measure, noting the additional revenue is critical for street repairs, park improvements, and infrastructure upgrades now and in the years ahead.
In 2025, the village completed several major street projects, including full-depth repairs on Butler Street and South Fourth Street, resurfacing on Vine Street and Fifth Street, water line replacements, and improvements at the Vine Street railroad crossing. Eyink said planning ahead allows the village to tackle a few large projects each year while addressing aging streets and utilities.
Eyink also highlighted significant investments in parks and recreation, including the first full season of the new splash pad at Memorial Park, which saw heavy use throughout the summer. A $200,000 grant funded major upgrades to basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts, along with new fencing and LED lighting.
Additional 2025 improvements included new police equipment such as a Chevy Tahoe, updated cruiser and body cameras, and computer upgrades. The street department added new excavation equipment following a fire that destroyed an older unit, while the municipal building received a new roof and the water plant underwent pump and softener upgrades.
Looking ahead, Eyink discussed plans for 2026, including resurfacing State Route 118 through town, major water line projects, park improvements, water tower repairs, and equipment replacements for village departments. Council has also approved the purchase of 30 acres along Brookingsville–St. Henry Road for future industrial development.
Eyink said the village remains focused on proactive planning to support growth, maintain infrastructure, and improve quality of life for Coldwater residents.
