Minster Board of Education Overview- January 5, 2026

 

The Minster Board of Education met for their yearly organizational meeting and regular monthly meeting Monday evening.

 

Organizational Meeting

 

In the organizational meeting the Minster Board of Education appointed Scott Sherman to the Board of Education. Mr. Sherman replaces Nick Rentz, who resigned effective December 31.

 

The Board elected Rich Bruns as Board President and Sara Corona as Board Vice President.

 

The Board set the regular monthly meetings for the third Monday of each month at 7 PM.

 

Also, during the Organizational Meeting the Board appointed the following committee members:

  • District Leadership Team- Rich Bruns

  • Representative to the Tri Star Career Compact Council- Stephanie Sommer

  • Representative to the Athletic Council- Ted Oldiges

  • Representative to the Recreation Committee- Sara Corona

  • Representative to the Scholarship Fund- Jeff Monnin

  • Representative to the Community Fund- Brandy Heitkamp

  • Representative to the Community Improvement Committee- Superintendent, Josh Meyer

 

The Board of Education also approved several items related to the functions and responsibilities of the Treasurer and Superintendent.

 

The Board then moved to the Regular January Meeting.

 

Donations

 

The Board accepted the following donations:

  • $13,281.69 from The Loretta Herkenhoff Charitable Trust for various classroom materials.

  • $1,500 from Minster Community Fund for Makerspace 3D printer.

  • $250 from McDonald’s for the athletic program.

  • $2,000 for the Youth Leadership Club’s Red Wagon Campaign: Minster Bank, Minster Tasty Treat, Fabcor Inc., HA Dorsten Inc., Minster Journeymans Club, Mark One Manufacturing, Ann Bergman, Mag Dues, Jim & Mary Rannly, Randy & Kathy Watercutter.

  • $2,000 from the Minster Community Fund for the Battle Bots Program.

  • $100 from an anonymous donor for the No Shame Lunch program.

 

Board Recognition of Students

Curriculum and Instruction

High School band director Mrs. Jen Beair spoke to the Board about the recently concluded band trip to Florida. Some highlights of the trip include the number of Minster parents and community members that attended the trip to support the band and seeing students make new friends and interact with each other. Mrs. Beair also told the Board about upcoming band events, including concerts, the upcoming Honors Band performances, pep band, solo and ensemble and adjudicated events.

Superintendent’s Report

 

Superintendent Josh Meyer shared with the Board that January is School Board Appreciation Month. He also updated the board on recently enacted property tax bills. Mr. Meyer’s full report can be found here: Superintendent's Report

 

K-6 Principal’s Report

 

Elementary Principal Mrs. Mandy Albers shared the elementary report. Mrs. Albers updated the Board on Third Grade Reading Test results, MAP and Acadience testing. She informed the Board that kindergarten registration is set for March 30-31.

7-12 Principal’s Report

 

7-12 Principal Mr. Austin Kaylor shared the Jr/Sr High School update with the Board. He congratulated the December CATS of the Month winners, provided the Board with information regarding 8th grade “Elective Day”, CCP Info Night and upcoming semester exams and student led conferences.

Curriculum and Instruction

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Treasurer Gina Selby provided the Board with her monthly report. Mrs. Selby updated the Board on a transfer of bond proceeds to cover land acquisition expenses, provided updated property tax valuations to the Board. She reported that the FY 24 and FY 25 audits have been completed with no material findings.

Superintendent’s Consent Agenda

 

During the Superintendent’s Consent Agenda portion of the meeting the Minster Board approved the following:

 

  • Recognized School Board members as part of School Board Appreciation Month.

  • Adopted the school calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.

New Business

 

In new business the Minster Board approved the following items:

  • There were no items of new business for the Board to consider

 

The Board set February 18 at 7 PM in the Large Group Room as the time for their next monthly meeting. The Board also scheduled a special meeting and work session for January 27 at 6 PM in the High School Conference Room.

 

Personnel Recommendations

 

The Board approved the following Personnel Recommendations:

  • Deb Meyer- Sub Asst. Treasurer

  • Dorthy Bruns- Sub EMIS Coordinator

Executive Session

 

The Board of Education entered into Executive Session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee, to consider details relative to the district’s security arrangements and emergency response protocols, and the purchase or sale of property. No action was taken after the Executive Session.
