Coldwater police warn residents about door-to-door solicitors

COLDWATER POLICE WARN RESIDENTS ABOUT DOOR-TO-DOOR SOLICITORS

The Coldwater Police Department is reminding residents to be cautious after receiving multiple complaints about door-to-door solicitors operating in the village.

According to Police Chief Kevin Wynk, anyone selling goods, bartering, or soliciting orders within the village limits is required to obtain a solicitor’s permit through the Coldwater Police Department. The permit process includes an extensive background check conducted by the department.

Solicitor permits are valid for 30 days, and individuals must repeat the application and background check process to renew the permit. At this time, the City of Coldwater does not have any active solicitor permits on file.

Chief Wynk encourages residents to contact the police department if they have questions or concerns about someone going door-to-door, or if a solicitor makes them uncomfortable.

“If something doesn’t seem right, or if a resident does not want a solicitor at their home, they should call us,” Wynk said. “An officer will respond and explain the permit process to the individual if they are eligible.”

Residents with concerns about solicitors are asked to contact the Coldwater Police Department at 419-678-2356. Updates will be provided if any solicitor permits are approved.
