St. Marys solid waste rate proposal headed to council after committee meeting

St. Marys Mayor Joe Hurlburt says the city’s Solid Waste Committee met Tuesday and is now preparing to send a rate proposal to city council for consideration.

Hurlburt said the committee shared findings from its rates study with the public and took questions and comments during the meeting. He said the committee has reached conclusions based on that study, but he is not releasing specific numbers yet.

The mayor said the proposal will be presented to council and handled as an ordinance, which will be read three times before it can take effect. Hurlburt noted the numbers are expected to be presented during Monday’s council meeting, and if approved, the ordinance would go into effect 30 days after the final reading.

Hurlburt said the goal is to have the new plan in place around May.
