Celina Woman Charged with Felony Domestic Violence, Cocaine Possession

CELINA — A Celina woman is facing felony charges following a reported domestic dispute Monday evening.

According to an affidavit filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home in the 60 block of West Riley Street on February 23 for a reported disturbance.

A man told dispatchers his wife had threatened him with a knife. When deputies arrived at the residence, they made contact with 52-year-old Denise D. Bruns, who was reportedly holding a knife. Authorities say she complied when ordered to drop it.

According to court documents, Bruns told deputies that during an argument, her husband placed a nylon dog leash around her neck and pulled on it. Deputies reported observing a red mark on her neck. She allegedly told officers she then went into the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and her husband left the home.

The man told deputies the argument began after he saw a message on Bruns’ phone from another individual. He said Bruns became upset, grabbed a knife, and began swinging it at him before he left the residence and called 911.

Investigators determined both individuals would face domestic violence charges.

While speaking with deputies, Bruns reportedly admitted she had used cocaine earlier in the day. Authorities say she later told them she had cocaine inside a cigarette package in her pocket. Deputies located a small bag containing a white substance that field-tested positive for cocaine.

Court records indicate Bruns has a prior domestic violence conviction from September 2023 in Celina Municipal Court.

She is charged with felony domestic violence and possession of cocaine. Bruns is being held on a $75,000 bond, subject to 10 percent cash.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 4 before Judge Matthew K. Fox in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
