Multiple Rounds of Rain This Week Could Bring Localized Flooding, EMA Says

Mercer County Emergency Management Agency Specialist Cassidy Freeman says the Grand Lake Region is heading into a wet stretch with multiple rounds of rainfall expected over the next several days.

Freeman says some locations could pick up several inches of rain through the week, depending on where the heavier bands set up. Right now, forecasts show Mercer County in the range of about a half inch to an inch, while areas farther south could see closer to two to three inches.

With repeated rainfall, Freeman says streams and creeks could rise quickly, creating a risk for localized flooding, especially in low lying areas and spots that typically take on water first.

Freeman is encouraging residents to take a few minutes now to prepare. That includes making sure sump pumps are working properly and reviewing basic safety steps for heavier rain events, such as avoiding flooded roadways and keeping an eye on changing conditions.
