CELINA — The Celina Bulldogs boys and girls bowling teams are preparing for the state tournament this weekend, and team members say they are excited for the opportunity to compete together and represent their school on one of the biggest stages of the season.
Several bowlers shared their excitement ahead of the trip, saying the experience means even more because many of them have competed together for years. Senior Austin Novitsky said it’s special to see both teams reach state during his final season.
He said he’s excited that both the girls and boys teams are competing at state in his senior year, noting both groups have performed well and worked hard all season to reach this point.
For the girls team, senior Marissa Hole said she’s hoping the teams can make the most of the opportunity and possibly bring home a championship. She said she’s looking forward to hopefully winning state with teammates she has known for years, while also enjoying her final season competing alongside them.
Junior Chloe Bruce said she’s excited for the chance to make new memories with teammates while representing Celina. Bruce said the team hopes to perform well and possibly come away with a win.
Other bowlers echoed similar feelings, emphasizing the friendships built over years of bowling together and the work put in throughout the season to reach the state tournament.
Junior Carter Shannon said many of the boys have known each other for six or seven years, making the chance to compete at state together even more meaningful.
Meanwhile, teammate Mason said the boys team overcame a slow start to the season before improving late and battling through the postseason to earn their trip to state.
He said the team started the season struggling but kept fighting and improving, and he’s excited they now have the chance to show what they can do at the state level.
The teams will compete this weekend as they look to cap off their season with strong performances.
Meanwhile, Josh Goff, head coach of the girls bowling team, will appear on Spectrum Monday, March 9 at 12:35 p.m. to discuss the teams’ state tournament run.
