St. John the Baptist Church demolition resumes as salvage work continues

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH DEMOLITION RESUMES AS SALVAGE WORK CONTINUES

Demolition work is set to resume at St. John the Baptist Church, marking another step in the ongoing recovery and preservation efforts tied to the historic structure.

According to an update from Christ Our Light Family of Parishes, contractor Sunesis Environmental began work again March 30th. Crews are focusing first on the front entrance, where brick and debris are being removed to allow access to the church’s sandstone façade.

That façade is considered a key architectural feature, and efforts are being made to carefully expose and preserve it during the demolition process.

From there, crews will move to the north end of the structure, continuing demolition work and gradually working their way south through the remaining portions of the building.

Trucking and debris removal are being handled by Brookside Trucking. Clean materials are being transported to the industrial park, where they will be ground down, while other debris is being taken to various local disposal sites.

Church officials say the work is part of a broader recovery plan following significant damage to the historic building, with updates being shared regularly with the community.
