Rockford council reviews community events, utility concerns and sewer policy ordinance

ROCKFORD - Rockford Village Council reviewed upcoming community events, village business, and utility related concerns during this week’s council meeting, according to Clerk and Treasurer Lisa Kuhn.

Kuhn said council discussed several upcoming events in the community, including the return of the Rockford Makers Markets at Shane’s Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, and Sunday, May 31. She also noted the May 5 primary election will be held at the community building.

Looking ahead, Kuhn said the Van Wert Community Band is scheduled to perform Friday, June 12, at the Shane’s Park pavilion as part of a celebration of America’s 250th birthday. An ice cream truck is also expected to be at the park that evening.

In regular business, council approved payment of bills totaling $35,403.18 and accepted a mayor’s court pay-in of $268.

Kuhn said council members also encouraged residents to review sample ballots ahead of the upcoming primary election through the Mercer County Board of Elections.

She said several community projects tied to America’s 250th anniversary are also moving forward. The Rockford American Legion is planning an Avenue of Flags display, while the Shane’s Crossing Historical Society is sponsoring a “Plant a Tree with Us” program. Trees may be sponsored by individuals, businesses, or families and will be planted at Shane’s Park this fall.

Council also heard an update from Councilman Luke Stevenson, who said the village and chamber are working together on ideas for a new community logo and signage. Residents are being asked to submit suggestions to the village office. Kuhn said the logo could eventually be used on signage, a new website, and a community directory.

Kuhn also said council discussed utility rate increase concerns, noting that after Enbridge previously sought an increase, AES is now doing the same. She said once meeting minutes are posted online, residents will be able to find information on how to contact the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Council also held a second reading of Ordinance 02-2026, which would establish a sanitary sewer lateral policy for the Village of Rockford and repeal previous related legislation.
