Grace I. Young, 92, of Saint Marys, died 11:37 A.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1933, in Saint Marys Twp., Auglaize County, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Klute) Schrolucke.
She married James J. Young on August 28, 1954, at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Knoxville, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Glenn) Hadley of Minster; by her grandchildren: Jeff (Sonya) Hadley of Anderson, Indiana; Jody (Dusty) Kemp of Clayton, Indiana; by her great-grandchildren: Harrison (Sierrah) Hadley; Georgia May Hadley; Jonathan Hadley; Jayson Kemp; Lucas Kemp.
She is also survived by her sisters: Mary Schmehl of Saint Marys and Janice Schumacher of New Knoxville; by her sisters-in-law, Gwen Schrolucke of Brookville, Ohio; Shirley Jenkins of Saint Marys, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and by her son, Timothy Young; by her siblings: Aaron (Kathryn) Schrolucke; Charles Schrolucke; Dorothy (James) Prueter; by her brothers-in-law Carl “Bill” Schmehl; Paul Schumacher; Jim Jenkins.
Grace was a 1952 graduate of New Knoxville High School. She worked at Auglaize Landmark in New Knoxville from 1965 til her retirement in 1986. She started volunteer work for Auglaize Industries in 1987, and established a group nicknamed the “label ladies” who worked to raise funds to furnish group homes in Auglaize County.
Grace was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Saint Marys since 1959, where she served as a deacon and a member of the Women’s Guild.
She was a big fan of the Saint Marys Roughrider football and basketball teams and attended games whenever possible. She tolerated Purdue out of respect for her son-in-law, Glenn.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Pastor Ed Karges, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3-6 P.M. Friday and one hour prior to the funeral rites at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the James and Grace Young Scholarship Fund at the Saint Marys Community Foundation or to the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Endowment Fund.
