WORLD WAR ERA MILITARY ORDNANCE DISCOVERED IN NEW BREMEN HOME
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — A historic military explosive device, believed to be from World War I or World War II, was discovered Sunday afternoon inside a New Bremen residence.
According to New Bremen Police Chief Michael Skinner, officers were contacted by the family of a recently deceased New Bremen resident after they located the ordnance as they were going through the deceased's home and belongings.
A bomb technician team from the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit responded to the village to take possession of the munition. They removed it to an area northwest of town used by the police department for firearms training, where it was examined.
Skinner said the technicians were unable to determine if the ordnance was live, so out of an abundance of caution, it was detonated and removed by Wright-Patt officials.
