Mercer Health’s Play Hospital Continues Tradition of Hands‑On Learning for Kindergarteners
Mercer Health’s annual Play Hospital, held April 24-30, hosted nearly 800 kindergarteners who stepped into the world of healthcare through hands‑on exploration and imaginative learning.
For over 30 years, this beloved program has welcomed students from Mercer County elementary schools—including St. Henry, Celina, Marion Local, Coldwater, Parkway, Fort Recovery, and Immaculate Conception—along with Versailles Elementary and area homeschool students. Each visit gives young learners the chance to experience the hospital in a way that feels safe and friendly.
Students rotated through interactive stations focused on healthy habits, handwashing, radiology, surgery basics, and more. Every child met Mr. Bones, a kid‑favorite skeleton model, and many classes had the special opportunity to see newborns in the hospital nursery. A few groups even met Ripsi, Mercer Health’s therapy dog, who supports patients through the Mercer Health Medical Group Mental Wellness program.
“Play Hospital helps children see healthcare as a safe, welcoming place,” said Mindy Kremer, Vice President of Development, Marketing and Communications. “Watching their curiosity spark as they explore real hospital spaces and meet our team is a reminder of why this program continues to matter year after year.”
Mercer Health is proud to continue this long‑standing tradition—fostering confidence, curiosity, and community connection with every playful hospital visit. To learn more about community outreach available through Mercer Health, visit https://mercer-health.com/community-outreach/
