Cameron Jones Theft Case Set For Sentencing In June

A Mercer County theft case initially covered by WCSM in April is now set for sentencing next month.

Cameron A. Jones is scheduled to be sentenced June 10th at 2:00 p.m. in Mercer County Common Pleas Court before Judge Matthew K. Fox.

WCSM previously reported that Jones was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth degree felony. Court records at the time alleged the offense occurred between December 23rd, 2025 and February 10th, 2026, and involved $5,757.77.

According to a defense sentencing memorandum filed May 26th in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Jones originally faced a fifth degree felony theft charge alleging that he obtained $5,757.77 through deception. The filing says the case was amended through negotiations to theft as a first degree misdemeanor, and Jones entered a guilty plea.

The defense memorandum says the case involved repeated misconduct against an employer, financial loss to the victim, and a breach of trust. According to the filing, the victim’s statement indicated the employer discovered shortages, reviewed surveillance, and believed Jones used voids and error correct transactions to conceal cash sales.

The defense says Jones has accepted responsibility, entered a guilty plea, and accepted the obligation to make the victim whole. The filing also says he has paid restitution.

In the memorandum, defense attorneys ask the court to impose community control rather than jail time. They also request continued mental health and substance abuse treatment, random drug testing, employment or job search requirements, restitution as required by the plea agreement, and any other non jail conditions the court deems appropriate.

The defense argues that Jones’ conduct was tied to addiction, withdrawal, trauma, and mental health struggles, and says he has since engaged in treatment and worked toward sobriety and stability.

The filing states that a community control sentence would still hold Jones accountable while allowing him to continue treatment, maintain employment efforts, and remain responsible to the victim and the court.

The final sentence will be determined by Judge Fox at the June 10th hearing.
