Grand Lake Health System Reaches 1,000 Robotic-Assisted Surgeries

Grand Lake Health System Reaches 1,000 Robotic-Assisted Surgeries

Grand Lake Health System is celebrating a major milestone after completing its 1,000th robotic-assisted surgery.

Health system officials say the milestone reflects the work of physicians, nurses, surgical technologists, anesthesia providers and support staff who have helped expand access to advanced surgical care in the Grand Lake region.

Grand Lake Health System’s robotic surgery program uses the da Vinci Surgical System, which assists surgeons during complex procedures while allowing the surgeon to remain in control throughout the operation.

For appropriately selected patients, robotic-assisted surgery can offer potential benefits including smaller incisions, enhanced visualization and precision for the surgeon, less pain and a faster recovery.

Grand Lake Health System CEO Cindy Berning said reaching 1,000 robotic-assisted surgeries is an accomplishment for the entire surgical team and represents the trust patients have placed in the organization.

“This milestone represents the trust our patients place in us and our continued commitment to bringing advanced, high-quality care to the communities we serve,” Berning said. “We are proud that our patients can access this technology close to home.”

Grand Lake Health System’s robotic surgery providers include Dr. Lance Bryant with Auglaize + Mercer General Surgery, Dr. James Reichert with Auglaize + Mercer General and Bariatric Surgery and Dr. Polly Train with Grand Lake OB/GYN.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. McNaughton said the milestone represents more than a number, noting that every procedure involves a patient, family and medical team working together toward the best possible outcome.

Grand Lake Health System says its robotic surgery program will continue to grow as the organization invests in advanced technology and expanded specialized care for patients throughout the region.
