St. Marys City Council approved emergency legislation Monday night as the city prepares for a transition in its information technology department.

Council approved an ordinance amending legislation that establishes wages and benefits for supervisory personnel and non represented city employees.

The change comes as longtime City IT Administrator Kim Reiher prepares to retire at the end of August.

City officials said Reiher has served as the city's IT administrator for many years and thanked him for his service as he prepares for retirement.

His replacement will serve as the city's new network administrator and is expected to begin work near the end of the month.

Council suspended the rules and approved the ordinance as an emergency in order to establish the new employee's classification and appropriate pay range.

Council also gave final approval Monday to two ordinances vacating portions of city right of way following a public hearing held before the regular meeting.

One involves property near Plum Street in the J.H. and D.A. Barrington subdivision. The other involves a portion of an existing 12 foot wide alley off Front Street between Spring Street and South Street.

No members of the public spoke during the hearing regarding either vacation.
