The Mercer County Firefighters Association Color Guard will hold a special memorial service in September marking 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 13 at North Shore Park in Celina.

Color Guard member Monte Diegel said the anniversary provides an opportunity to remember those who died while also passing the history and significance of September 11 to younger generations who were not alive when the attacks occurred.

The event will begin with a procession of public safety vehicles at approximately 1:30 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m.

The program is expected to last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

The memorial will include music, speakers and a wreath laying ceremony.

Mercer County Commissioner Brian Miller and Mendon Fire Chief Darrell Etgen are scheduled to provide remarks during the service.

Diegel said the program will honor all of the victims of the September 11 attacks, including the hundreds of police officers, firefighters and other first responders who lost their lives.

The Mercer County Firefighters Association Color Guard is serving as the lead organization for the memorial and is covering the expenses associated with the event.

The service is free and open to the public
