The Northern Shelby County Joint Ambulance District is moving through a competitive bidding process as it works to establish future ambulance and EMS coverage for the northern portion of Shelby County.

The newly formed district is responsible for arranging ambulance services within its coverage area and is currently reviewing proposals from providers interested in serving the district.

Board President Lance Symonds said the competitive bidding process is part of establishing a new contract for ambulance services.

The district includes Anna, Botkins and Jackson Center, along with Dinsmore, Franklin and Jackson townships.

Anna Rescue Squad supporters have also been encouraging residents to contact the ambulance board and express support for keeping Anna Rescue involved in local emergency service coverage.

No final decision on a provider has been announced.

The district currently anticipates awarding a contract in September.

Service under the new agreement is expected to begin January 1, 2027.

District officials have emphasized that the bidding process is part of setting up the new regional ambulance structure and does not mean that a final provider decision has already been made.
