Celina Plans Mosquito Spraying Next Week

CELINA — The City of Celina will conduct mosquito spraying on both sides of Main Street next week, weather permitting.

The west side of Main Street will be treated Tuesday, September 8, from 9 p.m. until midnight. The city will spray the east side Wednesday, September 9, during the same hours.

Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel said wet weather can create favorable conditions for large numbers of mosquito larvae to hatch.

Hazel said the city schedules spraying late at night when fewer children and other residents are likely to be outdoors. He described the mosquito control product as generally non-toxic while remaining effective against mosquitoes.

The mayor said controlling the mosquito population is important because mosquitoes can carry diseases.
