Celina Man Arrested After 51 Grams Of Fentanyl Found During Darke County Traffic Stop

A 38-year-old Celina man is facing a first-degree felony drug charge after Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies say they seized approximately 51 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Adam C. Boeckman was arrested September 4th on Arcanum Bears Mill Road near U.S. 36 following a joint investigation involving Darke County Sheriff’s detectives and detectives from the Grand Lake Drug Task Force.

Deputies initially stopped Boeckman for a speed violation. A drug-detecting K-9 from the Coldwater Police Department was brought to the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

A subsequent probable-cause search of the vehicle resulted in deputies locating a baggie containing approximately 51 grams of fentanyl, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office says researchers have estimated that approximately two milligrams of fentanyl can be a lethal dose for one person. Based on that estimate, the 51 grams seized in the investigation could potentially represent approximately 25,500 lethal doses.

For comparison, the sheriff’s office says Darke County’s population is estimated at approximately 51,520 people.

Boeckman was taken to the Darke County Jail and remains incarcerated pending his arraignment in Darke County Common Pleas Court.

He is charged with possession of drugs, a first-degree felony.

If convicted, Boeckman could face three to 11 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker thanked the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Lake Drug Task Force, Celina Police Department and Coldwater Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

The charge is an allegation, and Boeckman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
