Celina Man Transferred to Miami Valley Hospital Following Electric Bicycle Crash

A Celina man was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital after an electric bicycle was struck from behind Thursday morning in rural Mercer County.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injury crash at approximately 7:03 a.m. September 10 near 5556 Burkettsville-St. Henry Road.

Investigators said 26-year-old Daelen Combs of Celina was riding an electric bicycle southbound when he was struck from behind by a southbound 2010 white Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 21-year-old Andrew Heck of Celina.

Combs was ejected from the bicycle and landed in a ditch. Celina EMS transported him to the emergency department at Mercer Health in Coldwater. He was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital for additional treatment. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

Heck did not report any injuries. The Sheriff’s Office said he was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.

The crash remains under investigation.
