Delphos St. John’s Coach Charged with Domestic Violence as School Announces Leadership Changes

DELPHOS — Former Delphos St. John’s athletic director and head football coach Todd Jeffrey Schulte has been arrested on a domestic violence charge.

According to a Van Wert County law enforcement report, deputies spoke with a Southridge Drive resident in Delphos regarding a report of domestic violence.

Schulte, 52, of Delphos, was arrested and charged with domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

The arrest follows a separate incident reported in Indiana last year. A November 2025 police blotter published by The News Sun said Schulte, then 51, was arrested by the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office and charged with domestic battery.

The available report did not provide the outcome of the Indiana case. That arrest is separate from the current Van Wert County charge.

Delphos St. John the Evangelist Catholic School announced that Schulte stepped away from his responsibilities as athletic director, head football coach and junior high and high school dean of students effective September 15.

Aaron Dubow is serving as interim athletic director, while Dan Metzger has been named interim head football coach. Adam Lee is serving as dean of students.

The school’s announcement did not reference the Van Wert County arrest or provide a reason for the leadership changes. School officials said additional details would not be released out of respect for the privacy of those involved.

The charges are allegations. Schulte is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
