Ohio Unemployment Claims Decline for Second Consecutive Week

The number of Ohioans filing new and continued unemployment claims declined during the week ending September 12.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported 4,019 initial unemployment claims, a decrease of 295 from the previous week. About 711 claims were flagged for additional identity verification to prevent possible fraud.

Ohioans also filed 33,984 continued claims, down 1,207 from the previous week.

A total of 38,003 unemployment claims were filed statewide during the week.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in July, compared with the national rate of 4.1 percent. The state and national labor-force participation rates were both 61.4 percent.
