New Bremen Schools Earn Five-Star State Rating; Stadium Project Nears Completion

New Bremen Local Schools has earned the highest possible overall rating on Ohio’s latest school report card.

Superintendent Jason Schrader said the district received five stars overall and earned 29 of 30 possible stars across the report card’s subcategories. New Bremen also posted a performance index of 109.2, placing the district among the top two percent of school districts in Ohio.

The district earned 27 subcategory stars last year. Schrader credited the improvement to the work of students, staff members, families and the community. The complete ratings are available through the Ohio School Report Cards website.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the New Bremen Board of Education also reviewed enrollment figures. The district currently has 818 students, compared with 817 last year. Enrollment has remained near that level during the past five years.

The board received an update on the Cardinal Stadium project, which is nearing completion. Remaining work includes painting the track surface and completing landscaping and fencing. The project is expected to be finished in October.

Board members approved several personnel items, including hiring Karen Osterfeld as a cafeteria cook and educational aide and appointing a substitute van driver. The board also approved updated transportation routes.

Julie Langels was recognized as she leaves her cafeteria position following 11 years of service to the district.

The meeting concluded with recognition of Diane Kramer, who is retiring after serving 16 years as New Bremen Elementary School principal. The board did not enter executive session.
