Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and Celina Police Introduce New K9 Teams

Two local law-enforcement agencies have introduced new K9 teams to serve residents of Mercer County.

Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy Haiden Stidam and K9 Ace recently completed their training, with Ace officially entering service following their introduction at a Mercer County Republican Party meeting.

Ace was purchased by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office with money provided by the Red White and Blue Celebration in Coldwater.

The Celina Police Department has also welcomed K9 Digo and his handler, Patrolman Zac Nelson.

Nelson and Digo recently completed the Basic Police K9 Handler Course at Von der Haus Gill K9 Academy. Digo is just over one year old and came to the United States from Germany.

Digo is a dual-purpose police dog trained in patrol work and narcotics detection. Nelson and Digo will continue training with other law-enforcement agencies in the region.

Both agencies say serving as a K9 handler is a full-time commitment. The new teams will assist with law enforcement and public-safety efforts throughout the area.
