MAC, WBL Playoff Picture Tightens Entering Week 9

The latest Ohio high school football computer ratings are out, and several MAC and WBL teams are sitting in strong playoff position with two regular season games still remaining.

If the playoffs began today, 12 of the 20 football teams in the Midwest Athletic Conference and Western Buckeye League would qualify for the postseason. Seven MAC teams and five WBL teams are currently inside the top 12 of their respective regions.

Four area teams are also currently sitting in first round bye position, which goes to the top four teams in each region.

Those teams are Celina, Ottawa Glandorf, Marion Local and Minster.

Celina enters Week 9 at 8 and 0 and remains No. 1 in Division III, Region 10. Ottawa Glandorf is also 8 and 0 and sits No. 2 in Division IV, Region 14.

The two teams meet Friday night in Ottawa in one of the biggest games of the regular season.

Along with the playoff implications, the matchup will also have major WBL championship implications.

Wapakoneta is currently No. 5 in Division III, Region 10, while St. Marys has climbed to No. 7. Van Wert is currently No. 10 in Division IV, Region 14 and remains inside the playoff field.

The MAC playoff picture is even tighter.

Marion Local remains No. 1 in Division VII, Region 28, while Minster is No. 3. The Wildcats travel to Maria Stein Friday night for another matchup that could impact both the MAC standings and regional seeding.

New Bremen is currently No. 8 in Region 28, while Fort Recovery has moved up to No. 10. Those two teams also meet Friday night.

In Division VI, Region 24, three MAC teams are battling around the playoff cutoff.

St. Henry is currently No. 10, Versailles is No. 12 and Anna is No. 13.

Versailles and Anna are separated by just 0.3500 computer points, leaving very little room for error over the final two weeks.

Coldwater remains No. 5 in Division V, Region 18 despite losing to Anna last week. The Cavaliers actually saw their computer average increase because previous opponents continued to win and add Level 2 points to Coldwater’s total.

Coldwater travels to St. Henry Friday night in another matchup with significant playoff implications for both teams.

While Week 9 could dramatically change the computer ratings, every team still has Week 10 remaining after Friday night. That means the playoff field, regional seeds and first round bye positions are not final.

With two weeks remaining, nearly every MAC and WBL game could have an impact somewhere on the playoff board.
