Suspicious letter addressed to Ohio Secretary of State intercepted

A suspicious letter containing a white powdery substance and addressed to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose was intercepted by the U.S. Postal Service on Wednesday.

LaRose said election officials in other states have received similar letters as part of a recent pattern across the country.

In a statement, LaRose said election officials should not have to fear for their safety while performing their duties. He added that threats and acts of intimidation will not prevent his office from working to provide secure and accessible elections.

LaRose also said Ohio voters should remain confident that the election process will be safe and secure.

No information was immediately released about the substance or where the letter originated.
