Nearly one in three young adults living with their parents

Nearly one in three young adults living with their parents

Rising housing costs, inflation and uncertainty in the job market are leading more young adults to move back home with their parents.

Research from Realtor.com shows more than 25 million adults between the ages of 25 and 34 lived with their parents last year. That represents nearly one in three young adults and is a higher percentage than during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study found 70 percent of young adults living with their parents are employed, suggesting the cost of living is playing a larger role than unemployment.

Families considering the arrangement are encouraged to discuss expenses, household responsibilities, privacy and expectations before the move takes place.
