Three sentenced in 2022 Auglaize County murder case

WAPAKONETA — Three people already serving federal prison sentences have received additional state sentences for their roles in the 2022 murder of Timothy Hovanec in Auglaize County.

Amanda Hovanec, 39, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years after pleading guilty to aggravated murder.

Her state sentence will run concurrently with her 40-year federal sentence. She would not be eligible for parole until after completing the federal sentence.

Anthony Theodorou, 38, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated murder. His state sentence will run concurrently with an 18-year federal sentence.

Anita Green, 66, pleaded guilty to complicity to commit aggravated murder and complicity to tampering with evidence. She received a 14-year sentence that will run concurrently with her 10-year federal sentence.

Investigators said Amanda Hovanec injected her estranged husband with a controlled substance at Green’s home in April 2022 as Timothy Hovanec returned the couple’s children following a visit.

Authorities said Theodorou, who was in a relationship with Amanda Hovanec, imported the substance from South Africa.

After Timothy Hovanec was killed, investigators said his vehicle was taken to Dayton. Green then drove Amanda Hovanec and Theodorou as they transported his body to a rural area of Auglaize County.

The three defendants were indicted on state charges by an Auglaize County grand jury in 2025 after previously pleading guilty to federal charges arising from the killing.
