New Bremen Council Hears Flooding Concerns, Reviews Tax and Annexation Measures

New Bremen Village Council heard concerns about flooding on Cherry Street and considered several measures during Monday’s meeting.

Mayor Bob Parker said residents William Davis and Chris Dickey spoke to council about flooding and raised concerns about an alley that was repaved a couple of years ago. Parker said the village agreed to study and evaluate the issue.

Council held second readings on three measures, including an ordinance to continue the village income tax at its current rate of 1.75% from 2027 through 2029. The other measures address the village’s credit card convenience fee policy and millage rates established by the Auglaize County Budget Commission.

Among the items receiving first readings was a proposed annexation agreement with German Township involving approximately 3.468 acres. Parker said the Monger and Overman properties need to connect to the village’s sanitary sewer system.

Council also gave a first reading to a resolution accepting the sole bid for water treatment plant salt from Artesian of Pioneer at $178 per ton. Other resolutions introduced would adopt the Auglaize County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and transfer three uncashed checks totaling $443 to the state’s Unclaimed Monies Fund.

Parker also recognized the village electric department for receiving a safety award at the annual AMP meeting. He thanked Mote & Associates for its work with the village over approximately 50 years, saying the firm is closing at the end of October.
