Motorcyclist Killed in Darke County Crash

A 52-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday evening in a crash on State Route 121 near Wayne Lakes.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and emergency crews responded to the 3400 block of State Route 121 at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say Charlene Flatter, 78, of Wayne Lakes, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox northbound when she attempted to turn into the Wayne Lakes entrance and turned into the path of a southbound Harley-Davidson operated by Rickie Hess Jr.

Hess was pronounced dead at the scene. Flatter was evaluated by medical personnel and released at the scene.

The Darke County Coroner’s Office and the sheriff’s accident reconstruction team assisted. The crash remains under investigation.
