Wapakoneta Parks Levy Passes, Maintenance Comes First

Wapakoneta Parks Levy Passes, Maintenance Comes First

Wapakoneta voters approved a 2-mill parks levy Tuesday that Mayor Dan Lee says will generate about $560,000 a year for the city’s parks.

Lee said the city will first address maintenance that has been difficult to keep up with under the previous levy. That includes repairing park grounds, restoring playable grass and bringing aging playground equipment up to code.

Once that work is underway, Lee said the city will look at replacing entire playground structures and adding new ones. He said the parks are where children play sports and families gather, and that their condition helps shape visitors’ impressions of Wapakoneta.
