COLDWATER — Coldwater’s fourth and fifth grade drama students will present Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr. November 19 through November 22 in the Coldwater Auditeria.

Director Denise Petersen discussed the production during an appearance on WCSM Radio’s Spectrum program with several members of the cast.

The musical follows a group of animals who escape from New York’s Central Park Zoo and unexpectedly find themselves on the island of Madagascar.

Petersen said approximately 100 students are involved in the production. Rehearsals began during the first full week of school and have included practices before and after school.

Cast members appearing on Spectrum discussed their characters, costumes and favorite parts of performing. The featured roles include Marty the zebra, Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, Melman the giraffe, Skipper the penguin and King Julien.

Petersen said this year’s cast includes many strong singers. The production features several musical numbers, including the well-known song “I Like to Move It.”

The production has also received assistance from parents, teachers, students and community members with choreography, costumes, makeup and set construction.

Performances are scheduled for Thursday, November 19, at 7 p.m.; Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, November 21, at 2 p.m.; and Sunday, November 22, at 2 p.m.

The Friday performance is dependent on Coldwater’s football playoff schedule and will be canceled if the Cavaliers are playing that evening.

Advance tickets cost $8 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets may be purchased from the Coldwater Elementary School office or Petersen. Admission at the door will be $10 for all attendees.
